Question 1

What is the best tour to book in Flores?

Accepted Answer

The full-day island tour is the most practical first experience — it covers the crater lakes, Poço do Bacalhau, Fajã Grande, and the main viewpoints in one outing with a guide who knows when the light is best at each stop. If you have more than one day, add a kayaking session or a guided hike between villages.

Question 2

How do you get from Flores to Corvo?

Accepted Answer

A small passenger ferry connects Santa Cruz das Flores with Corvo in around 30–45 minutes depending on sea conditions. The crossing runs daily in summer but is weather-dependent. Several Flores-based operators offer the Corvo day trip as a combined experience that includes the ferry crossing and a guided hike to the Caldeirão crater rim.

Question 3

Is Flores suitable for beginner kayakers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Kayak tours on Lagoa Funda crater lake and in the sheltered bays around Fajã Grande are suitable for beginners with no prior experience. Guides provide full instruction before departure. Sea conditions on open coastal sections vary — check with the operator before booking a coastal kayaking route if you have no experience.

Question 4

Are the hiking trails on Flores well signposted?

Accepted Answer

The main trails are marked with colour-coded posts, but some older and more remote paths between villages are less clearly signposted and can be overgrown. For ridge walks and crater lake routes, a local guide is strongly recommended. Trail conditions depend on recent rainfall — Flores is the wettest of the inhabited islands.
