The Azores Triangle Adventure links the three central islands that locals call the Triangle, Pico, São Jorge and Faial, in a single trail running event. Over three days, from 23 to 25 October 2026, runners cover more than 86 km, one island a day, according to the regional events calendar.

The three stages

  • Pico, “Das Vinhas à Montanha”: about 25 km climbing from the sea, through vineyard country, up to the Casa da Montanha at the foot of Mount Pico.
  • São Jorge, “Fajãs Trail”: the next day, about 25 km past some of the island's famous fajãs, the flat strips of land at the foot of its cliffs.
  • Faial, “Trail dos Vulcões”: the closing stage, about 35 km from the Capelinhos Volcano to Ribeirinha.

Taking part or watching

This is a multi-day race for fit, experienced trail runners. Entry conditions, registration and the exact start times are set by the organiser, so check the Azores Triangle Adventure page before you plan anything. If you are not running, the stages pass through landscapes worth seeing anyway: the lava vineyards of Pico, the fajãs of São Jorge and the volcanic landscape around Capelinhos.

Local tip

Following the race means hopping between three islands on three consecutive days. Sort out your crossings between Pico, São Jorge and Faial before you arrive, and keep a spare day in case the weather changes plans.
